Feeding Seahorse on Vacation Without Tank Sitter?

Hi,

I'll be on vacation for a week in the beginning of August. I have 2 erectus and no tank sitter I can think of, but I guess I could find one if absolutely necessary.

My question is, can I just dump 100 or so live mysis or maybe 50 ghost shrimp in the tank? How long would they last before getting eaten?

Thanks.

They probably wouldn't last long. I'd get a sitter. If given the opportunity to hunt, seahorses will hunt everything down all day long.

Yeah, you're probably right. I'm gonna go with 200 mysis and if there isn't much food for a few days towards the end of the week they should still be OK. Thanks.

Mysis and ghost shrimp are fresh water shrimp and won't live long in the salt tank. What you need is mysid shrimp but you may need more than 200 as they are adept at hiding, fast moving and small enough that it takes a good number of them to be of any value when no other food is present.

Maybe seed the tank with the mysid and have someone come in the last week
2-3 times?

Yes, that seems like a good solution. I'll have someone come a couple times the last few days.

Thanks, it worked. No more shrimp left in the seahorse tank.
